Apple faces class action lawsuits over decision to sell iPhones without chargers

In recent years, there have been a number of class action lawsuits filed against Apple for their decision to sell iPhones without a charger included in the box. The main argument in these cases is that Apple’s decision to remove the charger was a deliberate move to increase profits, and that consumers were not adequately informed of the change.

One example of a class action lawsuit against Apple was filed in California in 2020, which alleged that the company’s decision to remove the charger was a “deceptive and discriminatory business practice.” The plaintiffs in the case argued that by not including a charger, Apple was effectively forcing consumers to purchase one separately, which would generate additional revenue for the company.

Another class action lawsuit was filed in Canada in 2020, which made similar claims and also alleged that Apple had misled consumers by not disclosing that the charger would not be included in the box.

It is not publicly disclosed by Apple the exact revenue they made by selling iPhone without a charger, but some analysts estimated that this move would have led to an increase in revenue for the company, as consumers would have to purchase a charger separately. The financial gain from this strategy would have been significant, given the high price of the iPhone and the fact that the charger is a necessary accessory.

In any case, it is important to note that these lawsuits are still ongoing and it is yet to be determined whether Apple will be found liable for any wrongdoing. However, the fact that these class action lawsuits have been filed suggests that there is a significant amount of consumer dissatisfaction with Apple’s decision to remove the charger from the iPhone package.
